Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes that Jack Wilshere's inspired performance against Manchester City last Saturday will not be enough to convince Manchester United legend Paul Scholes that the 22-year-old is the real thing.

The Gunners Academy graduate cancelled out Sergio Aguero's opening strike, as well as delivering a headed assist to a lurking Alexis Sanchez to take the lead.

"The best place to answer critics is on the pitch," the French mentor said after the match.

"That's what Jack did, but I don't believe we can explain his good performance through the criticism of Paul Scholes."

"You have to respond to critics when you're in a public job. You have to accept criticism, go on the pitch and show you have the talent."

"The most important thing is to go show how good you are."

Their efforts were, however, put in vain as Martin Demichelis was able to write the final sentence of the match with a glancing header, ending the match with 2-2 draw.

The north London outfit sit seventh on the Premier League table after matchday four with six points.
