Samsung has begun the roll out Android Marshmallow update for its 2016 flagship smartphones. Owners of the Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and S6 Edge+ have started receiving Android Marshmallow updates.

Citing Samsung Korea as its source, Phone Arena reported that the company has released Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update for owners of the Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 Edge+ in South Korea. Samsung has also officially announced the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for international editions of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge starting from Feb. 15.

According to Samsung, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is only available for S6 and S6 Edge smartphones. It has further started that other Marshmallow compatible devices will be soon be blessed with the latest Android firmware update. However, the South Korean tech giant will be making separate announcements on the availability of the Android 6.0 release schedule for other smartphones.

Samsung has only released Android 6.0 for unlocked editions of its Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones. Carriers like AT&T, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile and Sprint will have to wait longer to receive the Android 6.0 update.

The Android 6.0 Marshmallow update brings newer features to devices, such as Doze Mode which helps in extending battery performance when the smartphone is on standby mode. The Google Now on Tap feature provides better contextual information to the user. The Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update is moreover said to include more than 200 emojis.

A recently leaked roadmap of Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade for Samsung smartphones also revealed that the South Korean tech giant will be releasing Android 6.0 update for Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ within this month.

The leaked document further stated that Android 6.0 update rollout will hit devices like Galaxy S6, and S6 Edge this month and may continue until next month. Other Samsung smartphones like Note 4, Note Edge and Galaxy S5 are slated to get updated to Android 6.0 between March and April.
