Last Monday the official app for Facebook was finally released in Apple's app store. Facebook's long awaited official App was expected in the last Apple event but it was a no-show.

The official Facebook app was said to have features that users can experience high-res photos, games, chat and better navigation using iPad's touch gestures. The release did not contain Facebook's timeline feature which Mark Zuckerburg introduced in the f8 conference.

In the Facebook developers' blog, they featured 5 items on the app's rollout. Bookmarks may be the main navigation channel of the app with every Facebook app being launched from there. The request dialogue for the mobile might get a bit more annoying with it having an alert notification every time a friend is playing a game on Facebook. Users can also now add comments on apps they would recommend in their news feed. Users could simply tap and type in what they think of the Facebook app they are recommending. The new authenticated referral feature makes users login when they go into a Facebook's app making it more customized to their liking. It probably will use user data such as gender, age and others.

While Facebook's Web site is still accessible in the Web browser, the app gives you a new layout with the status updates on the left side and chat on the right side. They give Facebook an uncluttered layout with having less on the screen with only two columns based on the screenshots Facebook has provided for their app. The screenshots suggest that you could swipe to change your screens from one function to another with chat and status updates having a screen of their own. It also shows a map where you could locate your friends.

Facebook has also said it would be making improvements on their mobile site. About 350 million people are claimed to be accessing the site.

"When users tap your app bookmark in our iPhone and iPad apps, we will launch it (if your native iOS app is installed). If your app is not installed, we will redirect the user to the iTunes app store. On our mobile website (m.facebook.com) bookmarks will link to mobile web version of your app." Luke Shepard in the Facebook's developer's blog said indicating that it will remind users that they can get the app from the store in their bookmarks.
