World number one Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy have confirmed they will take part in the 25th Dubai Desert Classic in 2014.

Both players did not compete at this year's event. Woods and McIlroy opted to start their season at Abu Dhabi Championship, where they performed particularly poorly.

However, Woods has twice won the Dubai Desert Classic and McIlroy notched his first professional victory there when he was just 19, which is probably a good omen.

Woods says he has "really good memories" of playing in the 2.5-million dollar tournament, which starts next January.

McIlroy said he was looking forward to the event, adding that it "will be fun to be part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of the tournament."
