Tiger Woods completed his worst ever 72-hole score as a professional at a major when he finished the US Open with a four-over round of 74 on Sunday.

The world's best player finished the event at Merion with a score of 13-over in a tie for 32nd.

"I did a lot of things right, unfortunately, I did a few things wrong, as well," the 14-time major winner said after the event.

Woods' previous highest score at the US Open was 290 - made at the Olympic Club in 1998 and Shinnecock Hills in 2004 - although he did card a 294 at Oakland Hills as an amateur in 1996.

His scores of 76-74 were his worst ever weekend performance at a major after being only four shots off the lead at the halfway stage of the event.

While he started his final round with a birdie on the first, things quickly unraveled for the American when his tee-shot on the second went out of bounds. His next tee-shot went close to going out of play as well, stopping just in front of a tree to leave him with a near-impossible fourth shot. He ended up making a triple bogey on the hole, setting the tone for the rest of the round.

"I struggled with the speed all week," Woods continued.

"These greens are grainy. It's one of the older bent grasses - creeping bent. I struggled with the speed, especially right around the hole. Putts were breaking a lot more. I gave it a little more break and then it would hang. That's kind of the way it was this week."
