Republican Presidential frontrunner Donald Trump said on Thursday that the UK is trying to hide its massive Muslim problem in response to the outrage that sparked off in the country after his controversial comments on Muslims. An online petition banning him from entering the UK following the comments have fetched more than 400,000 signatories.

Trump said that UK politicians should be grateful to him “instead of pandering to political correctness.”

He later posted on Twitter, "The United Kingdom is trying hard to disguise their massive Muslim problem. Everybody is wise to what is happening, very sad! Be honest."

Trump has been embroiled in controversies since he said the US should close its borders to all Muslims until the authorities can sort out what’s going on. The comment was made following the deadly San Bernardino shooting in California last week that killed 14 people. In a bid to legitimise his statement, he said on Wednesday that the US should take the example of UK and considering barring Muslims from entering the country. Trump alleged that some parts of London are so radicalised that even the police are afraid of going there.

The businessman has been criticised by British Prime Minister David Cameron, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, Mayor of London Boris Johnson and Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon for his radical remarks.

The online petition has become the most popular campaign ever on the UK government’s site, with 498,884 signatories and counting.

Controversial TV personality Katie Hopkins appeared on Fox to highlight the petition against Trump. She said, “A quarter of the population here in the UK are right behind Donald Trump.” Trump thanked Hopkins for her observations on UK’s Muslim problems on Twitter.

A Scottish University has also revoked his honorary degree following his comments.
