Sony Xperia M and M Dual Certified With New Firmware by PTCRB; Xperia SP, Xperia T/TX, Xperia V Still Pending
PTCRB certified a new firmware for the Sony Xperia M C190X and Xperia M Dual C200X that may upgrade the initial Android 4.3 Jelly Bean based on the build version. Meanwhile, official Android 4.4.2 KitKat for Sony Xperia SP, Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V remains unknown.
Sony Xperia M New Firmware
Two new firmware build versions have been certified by PTCRB for the Sony Xperia M and Xperia M Dual. It levels up the 15.4.A.0.23 on Xperia M C190X to 15.4.A.1.9 and the 15.5.A.0.18 to 15.5.A.1.5 of Xperia M Dual C200X.
According to XperiaBlog, it is a possible incremental update on the initial Android 4.3 Jelly Bean build released by Sony Mobile which may contain necessary changes, improvements and bug fixing patches for the two smartphone models.
PTCRB certified both firmware builds in May 28th 2014 and may be released soon if there are no further issues found. If released on June or July, it will be joining the anticipated Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia M2 and Xperia E1.
Sony Xperia SP, T/TX and V
Until now, there is still now word from Sony regarding the official Android 4.4.2 KitKat for Xperia SP, Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V.
PTCRB recently certified a new firmware for Xperia SP having the build version 12.1.A.1.205 in May 23rd which still runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean based on the similar numbers with previous build - 12.1.A.1.192. It has been certified for Xperia SP C5302, C5303 and C5306 models containing necessary improvements and bug fixes.
Xperia T and TX received a firmware update running the build version 9.2.A.1.205 while Xperia V received 9.2.A.1.210 in April 2014. PTCRB has not yet posted any recent certified firmware for the three smartphones after those updates.
Sony's official software support Web pages for Xperia SP, Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V remains Android 4.4.2 KitKat "under investigation" and it unclear when the company will announce the final judgement.
Based on the official release dates recorded by GSMArena, some of these 2013 smartphones have reached the expiration of the 18-month software support window.
