Richard Sherman could be traded to the New England Patriots this 2017 NFL offseason. There are trade speculations on Tuesday that the Seattle Seahawks and the Patriots are talking of a deal that will send the star cornerback to the defending Super Bowl champions.

The Boston Herald confirms that the Seahawks are “openly fielding trade requests” for Sherman. The report adds that a Sherman trade could happen before the 2017 NFL Draft on April 27.

Meanwhile, Sherman stated in interviews that he’s open to any trade. The veteran cornerback is reportedly warm to the idea that he could be traded to a Super Bowl contender like the Patriots.

“I wouldn’t want to leave this city and my guys, but I understand it’s a business and organizational philosophies change,” Sherman said via the same article.

It’s not yet known what kind of trade package the Seahawks will demand for any Sherman trade. The Patriots don’t have any draft picks in the first two rounds of the draft and it could be difficult to execute any Patriots-Seahawks trade if Seattle wants young prospects.

One trade piece that could interest the Seahawks is back-up quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo but they already have Russell Wilson as a starter under center. It’s likely as well that the Patriots trade Garoppolo to another team and get draft picks to trade to Seattle.

Meanwhile, Seahawks general manager John Schneider has reportedly confirmed that the tea has discussed trading Sherman, according to ESPN.

“What you've seen lately in the news is real," Schneider said in a radio interview. "That's on both sides. It's just open communication. He knows what's going on. We know what's going on.”

Sherman is a four-time NFL Pro Bowler making the team from 2013 to 2016. He is one of the best defensive players in the league and helped the team win Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014. Seattle defeated the Denver Broncos, 43-8 in that championship game.

Sherman is a six-year veteran and known for his outspoken nature on and off the field. His defensive intensity is seen as a key factor in Seattle’s defence being one of the best in the entire league the past few seasons.

For his entire NFL career, Sherman has recorded 332 tackles, 1 sack, 30 interceptions and 5 forced fumbles. Last season, Sherman remained one of the best on defence with 58 tackles and 4 interceptions.
