Apple Watch owners were delighted when the American tech company released a new update the Watch OS 1.0.1 to address all bugs and problems as well as adding more features for Siri and other third party apps. However, shortly after the update was launched, Apple was hit with a long slate of complaints about the wearable device’s heart rate sensor, according to Tech Times.

Apparently, because of the update, the built-in heart rate monitor could no longer function efficiently. Shortly after the update was downloaded and installed, the sensor started to give infrequent readings, which was not what the once-every-10-minutes timing that the Apple Watch was set to have.

Users have reiterated in their forum posts, as indicated on Mac Rumors, that the interval gaps in the heart rate readings were not because the Watch was not on their wrists or because it was turned off, and that the problem was caused by something that could have been tweaked by the latest Watch update.

However, since the bug is related to fitness, it is highly likely that only Apple Watch owners who actually use the device’s fitness features will notice the problem. Still, though, since fitness and health monitoring is a massive part of the Apple Watch’s marketing, the Cupertino-based company must find ways to fix this issue as soon as possible.

Some complainers on Apple Discussions have pointed out that the fitness issue might have been a result of Apple’s move to boost the Watch’s battery life by sacrificing the proper frequency of its heart rate readings. Resetting the wearable tech the hard way – which means resetting it back to its original factory settings and undergoing a re-installation of the OS – have reportedly not helped fix the problem.

On the plus side, the Apple Watch is still able to record real-time readings during workouts like it used to or when Glance has been purposely set up to manually check the owner’s heart rates.
