The coming NCAA football weekend features a couple of explosive match-ups. The Atlantic Coast Conference, once known as a non-football league outside of the Miami Hurricanes, has recently been compared favourably with the likes of the SEC and the Big Ten. In fact, two ACC teams are currently ranked in the top 5. The ACC matches on Sunday (Australia time) could very well determine who goes on to the national championship game.

Florida State, at 5-0 and #5, has already beaten one FBS top-25 team in the 2013 season: #25 Maryland. The Seminoles' 63-0 ambush of the Terrapins in College Park was televised nationally, and gave the Associated Press pollsters enough reason to give them the #5 spot in the polls. They are coming off a bye weekend, giving them enough time to recuperate and prepare for their Week 8 game against current #3 and ACC opponent Clemson.

Unlike the Seminoles, the 6-0 Clemson Tigers did not get a weekend off. However, they did win against the Boston College Eagles, 24-14, at home. While BC is not in championship contention in a suddenly-deep ACC, the Clemson-BC rivalry is alive and well. Clemson has racked up the score in recent wins, including a 56-7 demolition of Wake Forest at home and a massive road humiliation of Syracuse, 49-14, in front of an appalled Carrier Dome crowd. In fact, the word "Clemsoning," which used to refer to starting out with much promise but falling apart when it matters most, no longer applies to Clemson this season.

Both teams are known for their high-scoring offenses that are atypical of teams based in the South. Viewers can expect a lot of passing yards, touchdowns, and field goals from both teams, making the game very entertaining to watch.
