Even before Miss Philippines Megan Young left for Bali, Indonesia to compete in Miss World 2013, Cory Quirino, the national director and franchise holder of Miss World Philippines, knew the coveted crown would go to the actress-turned beauty queen.

This was because are Megan was declared Miss World Philippines, she was barraged with calls from various prayer groups, astrologers, number experts and life coaches who all predicted Megan would be the first Filipina to win the Miss World crown.

In the 47 years history of the beauty pageant, two Filipinas were first runner-ups and one was a second runner-up, making the Miss World the only crown not yet worn by a Filipina beauty.

"They all said the same thing, we see something in Megan, we believe she's going to win the crown," Quirino told ANC on Friday.

Besides the fearless forecast of strangers, Quirino herself felt Megan is a winner based on her sweeping the awards in the local pageant.

She added that several Miss World licensees from other nations also told her that Megan has high chance of being victorious in the October beauty contest. Thus, when she arrived in Bali 10 days before the coronation night, Quirino was upbeat that a Filipina will finally bring home the crown.

And the rest is beauty pageant history, including the uproar in social media created by an Indian basher of Megan who questioned the win of Miss World 2013 because she comes from a nation which has many migrant workers, including domestic helpers whose tasks include cleaning toilets, making them smelly in the nose of Devina Dediva.

Asked to comment on her basher who lost her job as teacher's assistant because of Devina's online rant gone viral, Megan opted to keep her regal bearing and with grace and finesse of a real queen dismiss the basher.

"But I do appreciate the criticisms as well because it helped me become a stronger person," Megan said.
