The approaching Typhoon Nari (local name: Santi) on Friday afternoon did not dampen the spirit of thousands of Filipinos who lined up on the main avenue of Makati City, the Philippines' business district, to have a glimpse of Miss World 2013 Megan Young in her Manila victory parade.

The motorcade started at 2 pm, but before it reached the end of Ayala Avenue toward EDSA, the parade had to be stopped and Megan, still wearing her blue crown and red terno, had to alight from the float.

"The float could no longer go on because of the rain. The roof of the float might cave in," Cory Quirino, holder of the Miss World Philippines franchise, explained to GMA News the abrupt change in the victory parade plans.

The halt of the motorcade was timely because the Philippine weather bureau just raised Typhoon Signal No 2 in Metro Manila as rains started to batter the island of Luzon.

Besides Metro Manila, Signal No 2 was hoisted over 11 other Luzon provinces, No 3 in 15 areas and No 1 in 9 provinces.

Despite the storm, Megan is scheduled to go on Saturday to her hometown in Olongapo City which is in the province of Pampanga, to distribute relief goods. On Sunday, the actress-turned beauty queen will open a wing of the Philippine General Hospital which caters to poor Filipinos.

Because of the inclement weather, the rains may have rained of Megan's parade, but it did not dampen her spirit overjoyed by the sight of her countrymen welcoming her back.

On Thursday night, Megan had an opportunity to share dinner with her mum Vicky, sister Lauren who is also an actress and brother Victor in a victory party at a Manila hotel.
