Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal will miss the chance to add transfer targets in January transfer window, despite the assurance from Red Devils chiefs that the cash for Mats Hummels, Kevin Strootman or Arturo Vidal's possible transfer is all set.

"I couldn't be happier at any other club in the world right now. Should I make a move somewhere else, I would want that to be a fair deal for everyone," Hummels said revealing that he could leave Dortmund.

Due to the treacherous nature of the mid-season transfers, the Manchester United manager believes he is unlikely to land any of those signings. According to a report from The Guardian, van Gaal has no desire to recruit short-team solutions and he has a big summer spending spree on his mind instead. The Dutch manager came up to this decision because he is happy with the progress of his squad during the first three months of the season.

Van Gaal's insistence not to take new defenders for the Manchester United can be a surprise because of the injury crisis at Old Trafford, which has shown no sign of letting up. On Sunday's derby, Marcos Rojo had a shoulder injury with Jonny Evans and Phil Jones still stranded on the sidelines.

Furthermore, according to another report from The Guardian in September, Manchester United has made sizeable war chest available to the manager should he wish to move in January. But van Gaal is encouraged by the progress of the squad as it stands, so any recruitment after Christmas is now being viewed as unlikely.

If there will be no barriers to the deal, van Gaal might pick up where he left off last summer and sign Roma midfielder Strootman. Strootman has recently gone back to training, after tearing his cruciate ligament in March, which put paid to his chances to work with van Gaal at the World Cup. Van Gaal opts to wait and take no risk in January and see if Strootman can recapture his full fitness and top form over the next couple of months.
