Since her marriage to Prince William on April 29, Duchess Catherine has been visiting various charity organizations to decide which she will focus on supporting. Such public service is expected of members of the British royal family.

Last Thursday, the royal couple led the ceremonial opening of the Oak Center for Children and Young People, a specialized youth cancer unit of Royal Marsden Hospital.

The Causes of the Late Princess Di

Prince William's mother, the late Princess Diana, was known for crusading for people with AIDS and against landmines, among other worthy causes.

Hundreds of charity organizations benefitted from Diana's role as a patron or leader. During her last years, she focused her attention on six charity institutions, including the Royal Marsden NHS Trust, whose president is now Prince William.

Kate Middleton's Course of Plan

The late princess Diana's first visit to a charity institution was to Royal Marsden Hospital, and it was also one of the institutions first explored by the royal couple as Duchess Catherine said she will complete her list of charity works by next year.

A spokesperson who spoke on a condition of anonymity under palace policy said in early September that Kate also has been visiting sick people privately.

"The duchess is using the next few months to get to know a number of charitable and other causes better, so she can make well-informed decisions about her future role. The duchess plans to meet a wide range of people and make private visits," the official said.

Like her late mother-in-law, the duchess has shown interest in the homeless, the veterans, conservation, and at-risk young people.
