Rumors about Jarryd Hayne’s return to the National Rugby League has started to buzz after the NFL rookie continues to sit unused on the San Francisco 49ers practice squad. However, a report suggested that “Hayne Plane” would not be taking a flight back to Australia anytime soon.

David Fucillo of SB Nation’s Niners Nation claimed that Hayne still has at least one more year with the 49ers for a chance to develop his American football skills, cancelling any speculations about an NRL return.

“When the season ends, the 49ers will likely sign Hayne to a reserve/future contract, which essentially gets him signed through the offseason workout program and training camp,” Fucillo wrote. “It remains to be seen what his future is with the 49ers, but his inclusion on the practice squad likely means at least one more year of opportunity.”

Hayne was waived by the 49ers two weeks ago, then subsequently signed him to their practice squad. The Australian rugby league star’s demotion could give him the opportunity to work on his running back skills and punt return skills, but it also sparked interests from NRL teams to get hold of Hayne.

According to Phil Rothfield, editor of the Daily Telegraph, the biggest spending clubs in the NRL have readied their checkbooks to pry Hayne out of his NFL dream.

“I'm hearing he will be back in the NRL next year,” Rothfield told 3AW Sports Today. “They've spoken already to his manager, Wayne Bevis, and I've just got a feeling when he comes home for Christmas, that he will be staying in Sydney and playing NRL next year.”

The report also suggested that NRL teams like the Sydney Roosters and Penrith Panthers will be ready to strike once Hayne decides to go back in Australia to play NRL. However, Hayne’s close friend Parramatta Eel captain Tim Mannah also believes the 49ers rookie punter is planning to stay the course in the United States to pursue his NFL dream.

Hayne has been on the outer with the 49ers practice squad as the club brought in another recruit Travaris Cadet, who can play dual running back and punt return positions. The 26-year-old Cadet, who played for the New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots, was signed last week after the 49ers veteran RB Pierre Thomas.

With San Francisco continuously looking over Hayne, fans can expect the NFL convert to remain inactive for the rest of the season. The only upside is it would give Hayne the time to develop his skills and be ready for the next season.
