The iWatch release date might be one of the most anticipated events this year even though Apple says very little about this upcoming wearable.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the iWatch release date will bring a myriad of design options and more than ten sensors. However, it must be noted that nothing is made official yet, at least until Apple's hardware announcement this year.

iWatch Form Factor

Reports say that the iWatch release date will bring a device which is akin to the Nike Fuelband. According to Tim Cook, via Fast Company, "I think Nike did a great job with this. It's for a specific area. It's integrated well with iOS. There are lots of gadgets in this space now... [As for] the ones that are doing more than one thing...there's nothing great out there that I've seen. There's nothing that's going to convince a kid that's never worn glasses or a band to wear one. So I think there's lot of things to solve in this space, but it's an area where it's ripe for exploration."

That being said, it appears that Cook wants to create an Apple version of the Nike Fuelband.

Devices such as Pebble Steel and Samsung Galaxy Gear provide great functionality, serving up notifications and access to playback controls among others but these devices have not quite caught on in the mainstream.

Basically, smartwatches have a lot of catching up to do to enter the mainstream. In fact, Moto 360 will be one of the first circular watch face designs to hit the market. The square watch face design completely ditches the traditional, timeless look we've come to know and love with the circular watch face. As such, if the iWatch release date will bring a wearable device that is timeless with great connectivity, the Cupertino tech giant might be a viable competitor in the smartwatch race.

iWatch Sensors

Wall Street Journal mentioned "over 10 sensors" will come with the iWatch. A couple of the sensors could end up for fitness tracking, while the rest of the sensors could bring a number of features similar to the iPhone. Ambient light sensor, gyroscope, proximity sensor and a couple more sensors are all inside the iPhone, which could also be in the upcoming iWatch.
