Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho doesn't seem to mind losing Diego Costa in their next game in the Premier League.

The Brazil-born Spanish international was shown a yellow card during the Blues' match against Sunderland on Sunday (AEST), and will be suspended when they meet Tottenham on Thursday. But with the Newcastle United game scheduled just two games after they host the Spurs, the Portuguese boss thinks that the circumstance will work to Costa's advantage.

"We don't cry about injured players or about suspended players," said Mourinho.

"If he's suspended, he's suspended. He can rest, he can be fresh against Newcastle. Against Tottenham, Drogba and Remy will have their opportunity to start the game. No problem, let's go."

The Black Cats frustrated the west Londoners, who were not able to find the back of the net, with the scoreline ending the way it started.

"It's a pity. We want to win every match but we have to lose some points," he added.

"Only one team tried to win the game but credit to Sunderland. They were very defensive, but defending a lot and well is not a crime, it is a quality - and they did it well."

"We are doing very well still and it is a point in a very difficult stadium."
