Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has reiterated his intention of keeping "super goalkeeper" Petr Cech at Stamford Bridge.

The 32-year-old Czech international had to give way to Thibaut Courtois after being first-choice since 2004, when he displaced then no. 1, Carlo Cudicini. He has, so far, only made a total of five appearances for the Blues, which includes only one cameo role in the Premier League after Courtois was stretchered off the pitch due to injury.

Nevertheless, the Portuguese mentor still wants Cech on his bench, but admitted that a player of the latter's caliber will definitely be discontented.

"The most important thing is what he brings to the team on the pitch, which is top quality," said Mourinho.

"When Courtois was injured against Arsenal and Petr Cech comes to play on minute 20, I was so calm. I wasn't worried about a change of goalkeeper. So when you have on the bench a super goalkeeper like Petr Cech this is the most important thing."

"Obviously he wants to play, which is why sometimes I make him play. I have to feed the natural ambition of somebody who feels he is a top goalkeeper."

"I have to feed that ambition to keep him... I'm not saying happy happy, because to be happy a player must play every game... but at least to make him feel that we like him, we respect him and we need him."

As the Januray transfer window nears, rumours about the possibility that Cech might leave continue to gain traction. However, his agent, Viktor Kolar, assured that he isn't going anywhere just yet.
