Bones Season 10, Episode 2 aired Thursday, Oct. 2 on FOX. The new season opened with a shocking twist a week ago, as Lance Sweets gets killed in the middle of the conspiracy mess surrounding Booth's case. Bones executive producer Stephen Nathan has recently explained some reasons why Sweets has to die.

"It was a complicated and very difficult decision for us," Nathan told TVLine, adding John Francis Daley, who has played Sweets for seven years in Bones, has been busy doing some major production work.

Bones Season 10, Episode 2, titled "The Lance to the Heart," opens with Brennan consoling Booth over the death of someone they've grown to love. (Fans are looking back to the first time the three met, during which both Brennan and Booth acted condescendingly toward Sweets.)

Soon after Booth (finally) calls Sweets "family," Christine comes in (she's a big girl now), expressing how excited she is to see Uncle Sweets and Daisy. Bones and Booth are crushed, realizing Sweets' death is going to break their little girl's heart, too.

Meanwhile, pregnant Daisy continues to help out in the lab, insisting that Sweets would do the same for her.

"Agent Aubrey helps the team with their quest to dig into a government conspiracy that goes back decades," reads the Bones Season 10, Episode 1 synopsis on TV.com.

James Aubrey (played by John Boyd, "24") is the new guy in Bones Season 10, whose entrance marks the exit of Sweets, just as Sweets came in shortly before Zack Addy (Eric Millegan) left the show.

The first diner scene without Sweets takes place within the first 12 minutes of the episode. The characters are talking regular criminal terms, but this scene is particularly poignant.

Notable in Bones Season 10, Episode 2 are the following: 1.) Booth's dark side surfacing and Brennan's attempts at keeping him focused, 2.) Aubrey's efforts at winning Booth over, 3.) Daisy's strong stance, seemingly indicative of a more frequent appearance in the series, and of course, 4.) the impact of Sweets' death to the team. These are some of the things that would set the course of events in Bones Season 10.

The scene where Daisy insists a closer look into Sweets' bones is too emotional. She is not breaking down, but the manner by which their story has developed from the beginning is in the scene, adding heaviness to every little squint line in the script.

Overall, Bones Season 10, Episode 2 is an excellent episode for any viewer who has ever liked Sweets or Hodgins' conspiracy theories, or both. In the end, the core of the conspiracy turns out to be an E.R. doctor. Brennan's speech in the end caps Sweets' life in the series in a beautiful, heartfelt way.

"Lime in the Coconut" is part of Bones Season 10, Episode 2. It brings back to the viewers' mind the time when Vincent Nigel-Murray (Ryan Cartwright) died, and Sweets got the team to sing their common "jam."

Bones Season 10, Episode 3 airs Oct. 9 on FOX.
