Collingwood Magpies’ Dane Swan was reportedly swarmed by Adelaide police cars and officers after wrongly identified as a member of an outlaw bikie gang. Swan, along with former Sydney Swans Gerrard Bennett, was about to grab a coffee and watch the State of Origin series at a mate’s house when police enforcers asked them to pull over on Wednesday a night before the Crows-Magpies contest.

Swan could easily be mistaken for a wanted bikie because of extensive coverage of tattoos on his body and a full grown bushy beard. Bennett, on the other hand, was wearing a hoodie that time which gave them looks suspicious enough from the eyes of law enforcers according to reports of AFL.com. The Brownlow medalist had thought they were getting “stitched (up) for half a second, by The Footy Show or something.”

“(The police) tapped on the window and said 'get out', pretty bluntly to me. I haven't been in Adelaide for a while, I thought maybe I'd done something when I last came here and I haven't remembered. They grabbed me out of the car and looked at me a bit funny and said 'how long have you been here'. I said 'about two minutes, came from four blocks up the road. They said 'you're not who we're looking for',” Swan told Channel Seven after a three-point loss to the Crows on Thursday night as per Daily Mail.

Magpies’ coach Nathan Buckley thinks it is natural for “Swanny” to get involved in strange things anywhere he goes. Buckley was not aware about the incident until the post-game conference of Collingwood’s defeat, but despite the loss and the unusual incident, Buckley still praised Swan for his on-field consistency and aggression.

“Swanny will tell you it’s only a game, I’ll plug away and keep doing what I do. I think his words over the last couple of days have been really positive around how he’s feeling about his footy, what he’s a part of. And I think the fact that one thing he should feel really confident about is his contribution to it. As I said, he’s done it in his own way and will continue to do it in his own way, but when it gets to the crunch he invariably loves the contest and gives everything for his teammates,” Buckley said according to the reports of Herald Sun.

The 31-year-old midfielder displayed an impressive performance in a losing cause recording 33 disposals and 11 clearances in his 250th AFL game. Swan has the second highest average disposal rate of any AFL player in the league’s history.
