Surfers should be aware (if they aren't already) that many places around Australia are known for their great big waves and swells. The country features 37,000 kilometers of coastline, so it is only expected that surfers of any level will find the perfect spot that suits their personal preference and skill.

1. Noosa

Noosa is located in Point Break, Queensland. The surf spot features scenic views of the ocean and the sunset. Thrill-seekers will enjoy rides going as long as 200 meters, depending on the day and weather. During some days, the waves are quite still which are best for beginners. On other occasions, the swells can form to great heights which are perfect for expert long boarders.

2. Northern Beaches

There are several excellent surfing spots in New South Wales, such as Manly Beach, Freshwater Beach, Palm Beach, Whale Beach and Newport Beach. Visitors can pick from any of these destinations depending on their current skill level. Wave-ski paddlers and body-boarders will also enjoy these different beaches.

3. Superbanks

The surfing spot is located in Gold Coast and features some of the best breaks in the world. Advanced surfers will appreciate the walls and tubes made by the big waves in the area. The best way to get there is through Snappers Rocks. The waves begin at Snapper Rocks and continue to Kirra, featuring various sections. On certain days, walls tend to be very long.

4. Snapper Rocks

The place is one of the most popular surfing areas in Queensland. It is best known for "Super Bank," which is the longest and most hollow wave in the world. The swells can grow as tall as six to eight feet depending on the day. Professional surfers gather to the place to attend big surfing events held throughout the year such as the MP Classic and Quiksilver and Roxy Pro.

5. Torquay

It is located in Bells Beach, Victoria. The surfing spot is one of the premier and oldest destinations for professional boarders. The swells originate from the Southern Ocean and can form surfs as tall as five meters at least. There are several competitions held throughout the year, including the highly anticipated Rip Curl Pro.
