In 2013, the Sydney Skinny set a world record and had proudly raised $11,000 for charity.

For 2014, the event is aiming to surpass the record as it happens again on Sunday, Feb 23, at Cobblers Beach, Sydney.

The Sydney Skinny was started by Nigel Marsh, a co-founder of another successful event, the Earth Hour.

"There was an 89-year-old bloke, someone flew in from overseas, there were four paraplegics, a double amputee, and there were fat people, thin people, young and old. It was just joyous. I am floating on cloud nine. It is probably one of the nicest days of my life," Mr Marsh told the Herald after the Sydney Skinny 2013.

Aside from raising funds for the Foundation for National Parks and Wildlife, the event also aims to eradicate negative body image and to promote higher self esteem among people.

According to the event's Web site, there were already 300 adventurous souls who had signed up for the even on Sunday. The event organisers are already thrilled, hoping that the event will set or even surpass another world record.

For this year, there will be designated swim waves so participants can choose their preferred time to swim. Participants can also choose from two swimming categories: The Sydney Skinny (900m) or do a shortened version of the course we are calling the nudie novice, a 300m swim.

A more exciting and organised National Parks & Wildlife activities and some wonderful art booths are also being set up at the shore.

Participants will also be given a Sydney Skinny sarong which they can wear at the event and which they can keep as a souvenir of this year's event.

As always, Sydney Skinny assures participants that there won't be spectators in the area as they are enforcing a no swim wrist band = no beach, until the final swim wave is finished.

Nudie, a partner for 2013 is also back participating for Sydney Skinny 2014.

"Last year we presented the Sydney Skinny where more than 750 wonderful people stripped off their cossies for a world-first 900m nudie swim. And guess what... we are about to do it all again next year!," a message from Nudie's Web site said.

Sydney Skinny encourages those who did not join last year to participate this year and never regret missing the event like one woman did.

"I am so disappointed I pulled out at the last minute, but happiness for those in my group who mustered the courage to follow through. How liberating," the woman shared.
