Not all letters, though heartfelt, get the desired replies. It appears that Shailene Woodley has been so passionate about the role of Hazel Grace Lancaster in the upcoming movie adaptation of John Green's "The Fault in Our Stars" novel that she had written one of those impassioned letters to the author through email, but didn't get a favourable reply.

The 22-year-old actress didn't get a bad reply, but apparently it could have been better. The "Divergent" star is playing the role of Hazel, a terminally ill patient diagnosed with thyroid cancer, who will get a chance to see the world differently after meeting Augustus "Gus" Waters.

Reports say that Woodley has been "perfect" for the role of Hazel, but it appears that prior to getting the role the actress has sent John Green a letter through email.

"She had actually sent me an email a year before, talking about how much she cared about it, and how much she wanted to play Hazel," John Green admitted in an interview with Vulture.

"It was a very memorable email, but at the time, I didn't know very much about Shailene, so my reply was very brief," the author added. "I think it ended with like, 'I'm not a casting agent.'"

Shailene Woodley, born and raised in the state of California in the U.S, has made her screen debut in 1999, though what has given her the breakthrough was when she was cast in the movie adaptation of the novel "The Descendants" in 2011, opposite actor George Clooney.

The actress' biography page on IMDb reveals that she was considered for the role of Katniss Everdeen in the Suzanne Collin's "Hunger Games" trilogy, but Jennifer Lawrence was cast, instead. But then, Woodley got the role of Tris in the Divergent franchise, alongside rumoured boyfriend Theo James, and has stayed in the limelight since then.

So now for her upcoming movie, though once overlooked, Woodley was cast for The Fault in Our Stars movie opposite Ansel Elgort, who she has also worked with in Divergent but not as a partner but as a brother.

"She sounded like Hazel," Green described the actress to the Vulture interview, who after hearing Woodley read the script has thought she was perfect for the role. "She had the cadence that I imagined in my head as I was writing Hazel, which seemed impossible to me."

It has been previously reported that the Divergent Star has dyed her hair red for the role of Mary Jane Watson in the superhero movie "The Amazing Spider-Man" but director Marc Webb decided to delete her scenes and cut her role from the film.

However, Shailene Woodley will soon be on screens as she and Ansel Elgort hit it off in The Fault in Our Stars movie premiere on June 6 in the U.S. and June 5 in Australia.
