Samsung is believed to unveil the successor to its Galaxy Note 5 in the week of Aug. 15. Fresh reports from South Korea indicate that Samsung’s next-gen flagship phablet will be called the Galaxy Note 7 instead of Note 6.

Citing its industry sources, a report in ET News claims that Samsung has decided alter the conventional naming protocol of the Note series to make it consistent with the recently released Galaxy S7.

The company supposedly aims to maintain uniformity in the naming pattern of all the flagship devices released in a year. As a result, this year Samsung will reportedly break the sequential number pattern and miss out number 6.

The Korean tech giant will apparently name the next generation of its stylus-equipped flagship phablet as Galaxy Note 7 instead of Note 6. Rumours also indicate that by changing the name, Samsung is eyeing on placing the purported Galaxy Note 7 against Apple iPhone 7.

The name change, however, is not new in the mobile industry. Apple also skipped iPhone 2 and released iPhone 3G in 2008. Huawei also played with numbers in case of its Mate and P series.

Samsung’s Note series is known for its large screen displays. In 2016, Samsung might incorporate a dual-curved-edge display (Super AMOLED) on Note series for the first time. The report from Korea also mentioned that Samsung will come up with only one model of the upcoming Galaxy Note series.

Here’s a quick recap of the other rumoured specs of the rumoured Galaxy Note 7. The device is said to come with Android N pre-installed. It could be the first ever smartphone to house 6GB of RAM.

The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 823 SoC will supposedly make its way to the next-gen flagship phablet. Moreover, a humongous 4,200mAh battery will be there to keep the massive 5.8-inch display screen alive.

Samsung is yet to announce the official Galaxy Note 6 release date.
