Ben Te'O in his element

Ben Te'O is a happy and relieved man. After his team won the Origin series for the 8th time, he has also been cleared assault claims by both the police and the NRL. A police spokesperson allegedly stated that the investigation stood closed and all due diligence had been done and no further action would be taken regarding the matter.

Ben Te'O maintains that is was Katie Lewis who attacked him with a stiletto - he was merely defending himself. And this was a statement he also made the very next day to a Rabbitohs official who in turn neglected to inform the NRL till it make public knowledge.

The alleged incident took place at the Ashgrove home of Brisbane Broncos player Corey Norman - following the altercation with Lewis; police had been called at the scene. A pall of unease hung over Ben all through the Origin series but now he can breathe a sigh of relief.

Despite a file photo being produced by Katie Lewis of her after the assault with bruised eye, the authorities swung in Ben's favour and pronounced him guilt free. Katie Lewis alleges she will not let the matter rest since she feels she has all the evidence to prove herself. With the clean chit given to Ben, Lewis told Channel Nine that she had cried over this injustice but has vowed to take the matter further till she gets her due since it was her who was punched in the eye.

It was only a month later of the incident that Lewis filed a complaint before first making a public statement - something that perhaps worked against her. Waving this aside Lewis challenges Ben to come face to face with her and look her in the eye - vowing not the let the matter rest.
