Odell Beckham Jr, New York Giants receiver, was fined US$12,154 (AU$16,310) by the NFL on Friday for verbal abuse and excessive profanity directed toward an official. This is his fifth known fine for on-field behavior this season.

Beckham was unhappy with the officials early in Sunday's game in Pittsburgh. He was noticeably upset after an offensive pass interference call in the first quarter. He then approached field judge Rick Patterson after the play. Patterson is the official who threw the flag.

After the game, Beckham claimed that he was told by an official to "get out of my face" when he asked for an explanation of the flag. "I don't pay attention to nonsense. It was a horrible call in my opinion. I don't understand how I'm running down the field on a go route and somebody tries to stop my progress, but I can't put my hands on them.” But that was not the last thing that he said. Beckham doubled down later this week by adding "Stevie Wonder can see it," regarding what happened on the field.

Referee Terry McAulay's crew were the ones working during the game. McAulay also worked the 2015 penalty-laden matchup between the Giants and Carolina Panthers in which Beckham was flagged four times, including three 15-yard personal-foul penalties.

It can be seen that Beckham has evolved into one of the most controversial and productive wide receivers in the NFL.

As far as the current games, Beckham leads the Giants with 75 catches for 1,015 yards and eight touchdowns this season. He also leads the Giants in fines.
