A man ran amok in his birthday suit at the San Franciso Subway - assaulting commuters, scaring them off, picking fights, and in between, showing off some gymnastics stunts.

The video captured by one of the onlookers showed the man first attacking a woman who was to take the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART). The woman, audibly terrified, rushed crying to safety moments after the naked man raided her.

After the woman, the nag turned to an older man who was trying to pass through the ticket machines. He pulled the older man's arms as if trying to take away something. A BART employee who was following them around tried to help the older man.

Then he tried to engage the staff into a fist fight as he moved around threatening. In between, there are a couple of rousing gymnastics moves as the man bounced off the movable barriers and the ticket machines of the BART station in San Francisco's Mission District.

At one point, one commuter who was walking along with his bike also kicked the naked man's butt as he passed. The naked man can also be seen lying down facing the floor.

Although the man was unarmed, it was obvious in the video that most commuters were frightened and just proceeded walking amid all the commotion. Many tried to ignore him, but even some of those who did were not spared from the assault.

Meanwhile, an eyewitness provided more details about the incident on Facebook. It apparently started above the station when the man began "shedding his clothes, running around screaming, and jumping on top of cars."

A team of police officers reportedly responded to the incident. They shut down the station, disabled the man to the ground and brought him out in a stretcher.

Scenes like this happen on subways elsewhere in the world. What is just unsettling is to see the man being left to roam around the station for several minutes. There was one staff member, presumably a security officer, who tried to contain the man but it was obvious he could not do it alone.

Maybe the BART police security should be more visible in the area. A security plan to station them in strategic areas may help, either for routine inspection of the place or for immediate crisis response like in this case.
