Steve Harvey may be getting a chance to redeem himself after his Miss Universe 2015 flub. One of the pageant’s showrunners has shared that they would like the comedian to host the 2016 Miss Universe pageant.

Miss Universe producer Mark Shapiro said during his guesting on “The Jim Rome Show” that they would welcome Harvey back for next year’s competition, People magazine reports.

"I definitely want him back, and I would hate to see him not come back. He's going to want a shot to redeem himself," Shapiro said.

Harvey made this year’s Miss Universe competition unforgettable when he mistakenly announced Miss Colombia (Ariadna Gutierrez) as the winner when it should have been Miss Philippines (Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach). He made the correction a few minutes after his flub and admitted his mistake during the show.

The TV host has also repeatedly conveyed his apologies to the fans and explained that it was an honest mistake on his part. He also shared in a previous interview that leaving things as it was would have been a “dishonourable thing” and that “it didn’t deserve to happen that way.”

Miss Universe showrunner Shapiro was also sympathetic with Harvey’s situation and commented that unfortunate things could happen to anybody. Shapiro said during his “The Jim Rome Show” interview, "Look, the world forgives, the world forgets. It could happen to the best of us. He was so well intended, and he's such a good guy, and it was really such a mistake that I hope people don't hold this over him other than for just a good laugh and let it pass."

Meanwhile, Perez Hilton, one of the judges during the 2015 Miss Universe pageant, also mentioned that he would like to see Harvey host the pageant again. Hilton told Us Weekly that the pageant’s organisers should consider bringing him back to the show. “They need to bring Steve Harvey back again next year. And bring me back as a special backstage correspondent,” he said.

“I was a little bummed he stole my thunder because I had a good [Donald] Trump moment earlier in the telecast that nobody remembers now because of everything that happened,” Hilton joked.
