LG is rumoured to be working on a new stylus called the G Pen. The news about the stylus from LG has surfaced because the company has recently applied for a trademark for G Pen in the United States Patent and Trademark Office, or USPTO. PhoneArena states that the G Pen stylus would probably accompany a forthcoming phablet.

Phandroid states that the description of the LG G Pen on the trademark application contains vague terms, which makes it difficult to predict the exact plans of the company for it. Phandroid goes on to state that the LG G Pen stylus may come featured with the LG G4 flagship smartphone or a phablet that will be launched in 2015. PhoneArena also states that the South Korean tech giant has also applied for another trademark for "G Scrawl." It is expected to function like a dedicated software that can be used along with the G Pen stylus.

LG has not made any official announcement on the G Pen yet. However, the G Pen is expected to take on Samsung's S Pen. The S Pen from Samsung comes with pressure sensitivity and hover detection features. Samsung was able to incorporate such features in its stylus after it took over the world famous digitiser manufacturing company, Wacom.

Both Samsung and LG have similar products in the market. Samsung has the Galaxy S line of flagship smartphones, which includes Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4 and so on as well as Galaxy Note phablet series such as the Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 3 and so on. On the other hand, LG has a G lineup of flagship smartphones which comprises LG G3, LG G2 as well as the LG G Pro phablet series, which includes LG G Optimus Pro and LG G Pro 2.

Even the wearable gadgets powered with Android Wear from both the South Korean companies appear quite similar, states PhoneArena. In the recent past, LG has launched a stylus-enabled midrange handset called the LG G3 Stylus, which came with low-end features. TabTec states that if the South Korean tech giant is going to roll out a stylus-enabled phablet in 2015, it may get showcased during the Consumer Electronics Show, or CES, which will be held in Las Vegas, or at the Mobile World Congress, or MWC, expo in Spain.
