The turkeys were pardoned for Thanksgiving, but netizens were not willing to extend the same forgiveness to Elizabeth Lauten, the communications director of Republican Rep. Steve Fincher. Her criticisms of the behavior of Malia and Sasha Obama through a Facebook newsfeed became viral and created a political storm too powerful for her to handle.

On Monday morning, Lauten announced through NBC News that she is quitting her post, following the strong public clamor for her to resign or for Fincher to fire her.

She is paying a heavy price for her critical posts of the two presidential daughters whom many Americans thought were just acting like typical teenagers. Now, Twitter is coming out with Lauten's misdeeds during her teen years, particularly shoplifting.

A Twitter member with the handle @theshrillest claimed that Lauten was reportedly arrested for the misdemeanor larceny in December 2000, citing court records. She was then 17 when allegedly caught stealing from the Belk Department Store in North Carolina.

However, since Lauten was a first-time offender, the District Court handled her case under the deferred prosecution programme.

DL Hughly juxtaposed Lauten's juvenile record with the Ferguson shootout, noting that Elizabeth was arrested for shoplifting, while Michael Brown was shot for a similar offence.
