“Grey’s Anatomy” regular Jerrika Hinton has been cast in an upcoming yet-to-be-titled HBO series by Alan Ball (“Six Feet Under,” “True Blood”). This new drama will be following the Bishops, a multi-racial family consisting of a father who works as a philosophy professor, his wife who is a lawyer, three adopted children from Vietnam, Somalia and Colombia and one biological child.

Later on, one of the children will begin to see something that others cannot see. Whether he or she has a mental illness or an ability that makes him or her special remains to be seen when the show airs.

Hinton will be appearing on the show as Ashley, one of the adopted children who happens to be the brains of an online fashion site. Her character was born in America to Somalian refugees and was adopted by her adoptive parents just when her mother passed away and her father was deported. In this series, viewers will see Ashley struggle with her cultural identity.

Alongside Hilton will be Duc (Raymond Lee), a successful life coach who was adopted from Vietnam when he was just five. Duc is really good at what he does and he has ambitions to become a motivational guru on the same plane as Tony Robbins. However, his ambitions mask a painful past that he has not really faced.

Hinton has played Stephanie Edwards for the past four seasons of “Grey’s Anatomy,” but she has entertained a lot of other projects on the side. In 2016, she starred in a Shondaland pilot called “Toast” that did not get picked up. Since she had been cast in the said HBO drama alongside Sosie Bacon and Alan Ball, rumours about her leaving “Grey’s Anatomy” have been swirling.

While Hinton still appears on “Grey’s Anatomy” and is still a series regular, it is not yet known if her involvement in Ball’s new HBO project will affect her role in the medical drama, notes TV Line. Earlier, Hinton was reportedly discussing to possibly take both roles simultaneously, but reports say that ABC passed on that proposal.

The long-running medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy” has, so far, not been officially renewed for a 14th season. However, the whole world might just go into shock if it were abruptly cancelled. Fans should not worry too much as it is pretty safe to assume that, given its current success, it will return for another run.

As for Hinton’s exit on the show, ABC has yet to issue an official comment. The most recent cast member who left “Grey’s Anatomy” was Sara Ramirez, who played Dr Callie Torres. Ramirez was gone after Season 12 wrapped up to “take some time off,” writes US Magazine.

“Grey’s Anatomy” is currently on its 13th season. It airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on ABC in the US. In Australia, it airs on Channel Seven.
