eBay Witnesses Massive Growth In Smart Watches And Wrist Bands Sales On Its Australian Site

eBay that launched its first app for Apple Watch on June 9 witnesses an immense increase in sales of smartwatches and wrist bands on its Australian site, according to reports.
As per the ‘Economics of Electronics’ report, in 2014, more than 50 percent of eBay shoppers made purchases in the technology category with buyers purchasing products from more than 400,000 sellers dealing in electronics, CNET reports. The online retailer says, the ‘next big boom’ is in the wearable segment. The report says, "As soon as smart wristbands became widely available, Australians embraced them -- buying 50,000% more smart wristbands on eBay in December 2014 than they did in January of that year," CNET quoted.
The CNET report quoted eBay saying, the wearables are changing the way Australians shop. The growth of sales of wearables is good for both eBay’s bottom line and the roll out of its mobile apps, as it gives more opportunities to customers to shop on more devices. eBay Australia's newly-appointed Head of Product Marshall Kim told CNET, “the rise in wearables is resulting in a change in the way customers shop, letting them click to buy on smaller screens at any time.” The publication also quoted Kim saying, "Our consumption time is really decreasing. On eBay, we talk about something called 'snack time mobile' -- in the time it takes to eat a Mars Bar, people are purchasing stuff. And there's statistics saying that more than half of Australians will shop online during a TV ad. TV ads go for a few minutes? They've bought something by the end of that."
eBay’s app for Apple Watch is classified into four categories, namely, Activity, Buying, Selling and Watching, reports Mac Rumors. Activity category gives alerts on auctions that are going to end soon, products on which buyers have been outbid on and products that will ship soon. eBay for Apple Watch aims at delivering information at a glance and it also allows sellers to reply to the messages sent by other users instantly, however, buyers still have the option to bid on the e-commerce site from their wrist sin just few seconds. eBay for Apple Watch is available for free on the Apple App Store, according to Mac Rumors report.
