Chelsea attacking midfielder Oscar snubbed an offer from football giants Real Madrid, before The Blues could secure his signature.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was a fan of the Brazilian since his days with Internacional in Brazil, and was said to have approached him after watching him play in a friendly against Denmark in 2012.

Oscar rejected the opportunity to don the famous white uniform because of a perceived stuffed midfield at the Bernabeau.

"A month before signing for Chelsea I was very close to doing so with Real Madrid as Mourinho said he wanted me," Oscar told Globoesporte.

"They came to watch me in the game against Denmark."

"Before the games there were talks with Madrid, but they had the playmaker position well covered. After the games, I signed for Chelsea."

Oscar has been featuring as a starter regularly for Chelsea in the English Premier League and in the Champions League, scoring a total of 5 goals in both competitions, while assisting his teammates twice.

"He [Mourinho] talked to me as soon as I came to Chelsea," Oscar revealed.

"He gives me confidence and I'm trying to return all such support on the pitch."
