Australia’s Miss Universe contestant Caris Tiivel's journey to become the 65th Miss Universe has ended on Monday after the top 13 was announced and her name was not included. Although it was Miss France Iris Mittenaere who won as successor of Pia Wurtzbach of the Philippines, the Aussie bet said the experience has been an absolute honour for her.

Few hours before Monday’s show, the Perth beauty took to social media to thank everyone who has supported her throughout her journey. “No matter what happens I have had the best experience of my life & to be able to represent Australia in Miss Universe is an absolute honour,” she wrote on Instagram.

Tiivel has also shared that she planned to just be herself during the Miss Universe 2016 pageant. She also wanted have lots of fun.

The Australia’s Miss Universe bet has not only earned the hearts of Australians, but was supported by Filipinos too. “Not only the Aussies, but also us, your Filipino supporters. We're proud of you,” an Instagram user named earlymonty wrote.

Tiivel has planned to utilise the Miss Universe platform to raise awareness on Australia's refugee crisis. Pushing for same-sex marriage was also part of her advocacies.

She has also been expressive about her political views. Earlier this month, she has commented that Australia should not close its doors to less fortunate people. Tiivel is one who would support US President Donald Trump, saying he deserves a chance.

“He is the President of the United States and we have to give him that chance. Hopefully he performs,” Tiivel told Daily Telegraph. Trump’s views on immigration have inspired pro-human rights Women's Marches worldwide, following his inauguration.

Furthermore, Tiivel has opened up about struggling with depression. She believes that many people are unaware when someone is actually battling with depression. The Australian beauty has planned to extend support to the cause by providing assistance to mental health patients.

Last year, Tiivel was hailed Miss Universe Australia after her second attempt to win the title after she initially failed in 2013. On Monday, she has competed with 85 other women from their respective countries in hope of becoming the first Australian crowned Miss Universe since Jennifer Hawkins in 2004.

Hawkins brought home the title in 2004. Since then, she has cemented her place as an Australian icon with her work as a leading TV presenter, fashion designer and entrepreneur.
