India and Australia will resume the Border-Gavaskar series with the third Test of the four-match series at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi, starting Thursday. After the Aussies won the first Test in Pune by a massive 333-run margin, the home team squared the series with a 75-win win in Bangalore.

The visiting team was dealt a severe injury blow when strike fast bowler Mitchell Starc was ruled out for the remainder of the series after suffering a stress fracture in his right food during last week's second Test. The selection panel, led by Trevor Hohns, has called up young fast bowler Pat Cummins, who hasn't played a Test since his debut in Johannesburg a little over six years ago. Several reports suggest that Cummins will be slotted into the playing XI to replace Starc as the new-ball bowler.

Meanwhile, Australian captain Steven Smith has reiterated his belief that the Indians "are feeling the pressure" after being pushed to the edge during the first two Tests. After his counterpart, Virat Kohli, referred to Smith's comments as "mind games", senior Australian skipper Nathan Lyon echoed his captain's thoughts while addressing reporters on Monday. “I think they’re (Indians) feeling the pressure a little bit to be honest. And it’s good. But we need to just keep worrying about what we’re doing. India can carry on or do whatever they want to do. They’re a world class, superstar team," Lyon said, via The Daily Telegraph.

Lyon stressed that the Australians entered the first Test as the underdogs but have a good chance at winning their first series on Indian soil since the 2004-05 season. “There’s a lot of belief. There’s a lot of people who wrote us off before we even got on a plane and landed in Dubai, let alone coming over here. Everyone said that we were going to lose 4-0 … ‘they’re no good, they’re a young cricket team learning’ It’s 1-1 and we’re one win away from regaining the trophy, and that’s what we’re here to do. The pressure is right on India. There’s no pressure on us," said the off-spinner, who finished with match haul of 8/132 in the Bangalore Test.
