Adam Scott was thrust into the background after the incredible consecutive wins of Rory McIlroy this year when he captured the British Open, the World Golf Championship and the PGA Championship.

Now, the world's number two is raring to pace the brightest name in golf. He was deposed by McIlroy during that phenomenal run and is lining up his title defense of Barclay's to be kept in the circle of golf discussions. The Australian golfer revealed that he is being treated as an afterthought given McIlroy's success on what he believes to be a reactionary world.

"It's funny because the week before The Open, it was the Friday curse and he's cursed and since he's been blessed I guess", Scott said of McIlroy. "I need to lift my game quickly and get a win here or in the next few weeks and show a guy like Rory, who is kind of stretching away from the rest of us, that someone is going to go with him."

According to Yahoo Sports, Scott believes that if nobody puts on any real threat to the world's number one, McIlroy would be only gaining more confidence and will be one cruise control in the upcoming tournaments. In an effort to keep up with the British Open winner, Scoot has improved his driver at Ridgewood Country Club.

The driving game of McIlroy that usually went long and straight has been a great arsenal for golf's best player that Scott is finished from conceding that advantage. Scott is lagging behind in season averages at 17th at 301.8 yards to McIlroy's third best rank of 310.7 yards per drives. It has been notable the during the season, the Australian has been the more consistent of the two but in the past three championships, McIlroy has upped his game while Scott missed half of his attempts.

"Rory has put on a clinic the last few weeks in how to drive the golf ball and it's motivating for me because I can see what's possible," Scott added.

Scott became the first Aussie to win the FedEx Cup 12 months ago and was gaining momentum towards ending the Tour Championship on a high note, but stomach flu downed his chances and Henrik Stenson pulled away for the tourney win. The world's number 2 is currently leading 10 other countrymen one week into the playoffs of the Ridgewood.
