Times Higher Education World University Rankings

Six universities in Australia have recently topped the World University Rankings for 2012-2013. The highest-ranking Australian university is the University of Melbourne. Out of 400 universities, the University of Melbourne ranked 28th with an overall score of 77.9. It ranked 37th in the world rankings in 2012.

Times Higher Education, powered by Thomson Reuters, has released the results of the World University Rankings 2012-2013. Universities around the world are judged according to their performance in teaching, knowledge transfer, research and international outlook.

The Australian National University is top 37 with a 75.4 score. The University of Sydney and University of Queensland Australia are top 62 and 65, respectively. The fifth Australian university to make it to the top 100 is the University of New South Wales at top 85. Monash University is top 99, making it the sixth Australian university in the Top 100 World University Rankings.

This year's results show Australia up from four to six universities making it to the Top 100. Most of Australia's top universities have increased their respective ranks even if they didn't get to be included in the Top 100 list.

The highest ranking university from New Zealand is the University of Auckland with an overall score of 50.3 at top 161.

The United States continue to dominate the World University Rankings with seven institutions in the top 10. Seventy-six US universities are in the top 200. The California Institute of Technology maintained its place at the top of the World University Rankings for 2012-13. Harvard University went down to fourth place while Stanford University and University of Oxford, both from the UK, share the second spot.

The university rankings use 13 performance indicators to produce balanced and comprehensive comparison of global universities. The World University Rankings provide reliable results and trusted by students, university leaders, academics, industry and governments.
