Roger Federer beat Philipp Kohlschreiber in the second round 6-4 4-6 6-4 to advance in the quarterfinals at the 2015 Swiss Indoors Basel. Federer will play David Goffin next in his bid to win a seventh title at the tournament in his hometown.

Federer continued his winning streak against the 32nd-ranked German in their third meeting this season during the second round of Basel event on Thursday. The 34-year-old Swiss, who struck 13 aces in the match, said it was a tough game after the German downed him in the second set. According to Federer, whose recent win marked his 55th match win this season, the crowd gave him a boost to seal the victory.

“It was a tough set and a half for me, I wasn’t struggling, but I wasn’t quite feeling it,” Federer said, ATP World Tour reports. “The spectators tonight maybe gave me that last push I needed, giving me energy and carrying me over the finish line.”

The 17-time grand slam champion will play Goffin in the last eight. It will be a repeat of last year’s final when Federer won his sixth Swiss Indoors title. The top seed Swiss leads their head-to-head series 2-0. Goffin progressed in the ATP World Tour Masters 500 event after winning his match against qualifier Adrian Mannarino in the second round, 6-4 6-3.

Both Federer and Goffin already played five sets in the tournament. The winner will next face the winner of an All-American quarterfinal clash between Donald Young and Jack Sock.
