Can Stannis Baratheon hope to win the Iron Throne in "Winds of Winter"? He is one of the strongest contenders for the Iron Throne but is facing a difficult battle in the next book and even more difficulties later, even if he wins the battle. Here is a look at some of the fan theories on the character. [Warning: Spoiler Alert!]

Stannis Baratheon is currently in the north and is facing a must-win battle against the forces of the Boltons and the Freys. After the huge defeat in the Battle of Blackwater Bay, another loss could mean that the reputation he has as a battle-hardened commander will be lost and he may also lose allies and supporters.

But even if Stannis wins this upcoming battle in "Winds of Winter," what are his chances of winning the Iron Throne? Some of the members at the Westeros paint a bleak picture of the future of Stannis Baratheon.

Stannis has very few soldiers left with him, compared with the Lannisters and the Tyrells. The new recruits from the Wildlings are not disciplined soldiers. The winter is fast approaching, which will lead to food shortages throughout the realm, and he may be the first casualty when the Others invade.

All these problems suggest that Stannis will not be able to win the Iron Throne in "Winds of Winter." However, some of the fans of the book series point out that Stannis may be working on a different strategy altogether. His main aim may be to fight the Others and win the hearts of the people first.

The support from the Iron Bank will mean that he may be the only "king" in Westeros with enough money to buy food for a large army and maybe the people. The money would also mean that he can bribe some of the lords loyal to other Houses.

The Golden Company has arrived in Westeros and the fragile alliance of the Lannisters with the Tyrells has been pushed to the breaking point. This gives Stannis Baratheon the advantage in "Winds of Winter." Fans of the book series also point out that if Davos manages to locate Rickon Stark, Stannis may win more supporters for his cause. Will Stannis end up on the Iron Throne with this strategy? Please leave your comments below.
