Novak Djokovic beat Roger Federer for the second time this season in a grand slam final. Djokovic claimed his second US Open title, his 10th overall, by defeating Federer in straight sets 6-4 5-7 6-4 6-4 on Sunday’s final in New York. Federer believes that the Serbian tennis star can win more Grand Slam titles in his career.

In a press conference following the US Open men’s championship, Federer was asked if he thinks that Djokovic can win more Grand Slam titles to add to the Serb’s 10 right now and the Swiss had some really nice words to say about his rival, who is the best player in the world, by far. In Federer’s words, Djokovic is playing at an extraordinary level.

The 34-year-old Swiss thinks that Djokovic’s current season is unprecedented just like the season that the Serb has had back in 2011 when Djokovic won three grand slam titles including a semifinal trip at the Roland Garros tournament. This year, Djokovic has reached the final of all four grand slam events and claimed seven titles including the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and US Open. Djokovic came as close to achieving a Calendar Slam, but he failed to win the elusive Roland Garros trophy when he lost to Stan Wawrinka in the finale in Paris 4-6 6-4 6-3 6-4.

Federer said that Djokovic’s consistency is the reason why the Serb has been so dominant this season. Though Djokovic doesn’t have the same count of the Grand Slam titles like Federer (17) and Nadal (14), the World No. 1 has been the most consistent player since 2011. Djokovic had won nine Grand Slam titles (four Australian Open titles, three Wimbledon titles, and two US Open titles) and had been a six-time runner-up in Grand Slam events in the last five years.

It is not getting easier for players to beat Djokovic, according to Federer. The Swiss said that there aren’t a lot of players who can hang with Djokovic. He added that Djokovic has fine-tuned his volleys and has put the art of returning serves to an entire new level. Federer said that that Djokovic is an all-court player, who can play solid on hard, clay, and grass surfaces.

“Clearly, he (Djokovic) can win many of them,” Federer said on the topic if Djokovic can win more slams. “He already has a ton, so obviously he’s got to stay healthy and all that stuff and hungry, but obviously you would think he will win more after tonight.”

Kevin Craft of The Atlantic wrote: “Djokovic is staking a claim as one of, if not the most, consistent men’s tennis player ever to swing a racket.”

Federer has already cemented his legacy in tennis. At 34 years old, Federer is one of the most accomplished male tennis players that the sport has ever seen. Djokovic, at 28, is one of the most dominant players in men’s tour. The Serb is in his prime right now and continues to get better in the men’s game.
