In a match that lived up to expectations, defending champions Seattle Seahawks beat Denver Broncos 26-20 in overtime on Sunday.

Seattle went into halftime with a 17-3 lead over Denver thanks to two second quarter touchdown passes by Russell Wilson. Defense marked the third quarter. Both the teams were unable to score in the fifteen minutes stretch of the third quarter that had five punts.

Denver's offense appeared out of touch for most part of the game but made a comeback to tie the game at 20 with 18 seconds to go in the game and forced overtime.

Denver's Peyton Manning tossed a short 3-yard touchdown pass to Julius Thomas in the seventh minute of the last quarter. That cut the SeaHawks' lead to five points. Again, Manning directed an 80-yard 41-second touchdown drive in the final minute of regulation. With just 18 seconds remaining in the game, Manning found Demaryius Thomas for a two-point conversion.

In overtime, Manning did not get his hands on the ball at all. Wilson rushed 21 yards completing 4 of 6 passes. Marshawn Lynch went the final 6 yards to score a touchdown.

Along with the team victory, Seahawks' cornerback Deshawn Shead scored a personal victory on the day. After the exciting game, once the players had showered and got dressed, Shead took his girlfriend out on the field. He then went down on his knee at midfield and proposed to his girlfriend Jessica, who said yes.

Amid multiple reports of domestic abuse involving NFL players, this news is certainly welcome. This season of NFL has been tainted by domestic abuse cases following which Commissioner Roger Goodell has been increasingly criticized for his handling of the issue.

Both Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos now have week 4 as their bye-week. Seahawks will meet Washington Redskins next on October 7. Broncos will meet Arizona Cardinals next on October 6.
