The Miami Dolphins keep giving away large contracts in this offseason of the National Football League, or NFL. Mike Pouncey is the latest player to be signed by the franchise with a lucrative contract worth $52.15 million for five years or roughly $10 million per season making him the highest paid centre in the league.

Ian Rapoport, a NFL.COM insider, first reported the deal between the Dolphins and Pouncey, who was drafted as the 15th overall pick by Miami in the 2011 NFL Draft. Pouncey will be entering his fifth season in the league and was bound to earn $7.4 million in his rookie deal but the Dolphins chose to lock him down early. ESPN’s NFL Insider Adam Schefter also confirmed the deal and the figures of the contract.

Rapoport also reported on social media that Pouncey’s long-term contract extension has been discussed in previous months and the deal only confirms the interest of both sides for a long-term partnership. Also in this NFL offseason, the Dolphins signed Ndamukong Suh to a large contract worth about $114 million for six years making him one of the highest paid players in the entire league.
