The Denver Broncos have young quarterbacks Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch under contract for the 2017 NFL season. However, there are still trade talks that the Mile High City squad is interested in veteran Tony Romo from the Dallas Cowboys.

Currently, Romo is behind Dak Prescott in the Cowboys’ quarterback pecking order. If he stays in Dallas, the former is the likely backup with the second year player once again getting most of the snaps in Texas.

With Romo’s future as a prominent player for Dallas looking bleak, the veteran has been linked to a couple of teams that are playoff contenders next NFL season. The squads mentioned are the Houston Texans and the Broncos and both teams could use the veteran arm of Romo to lead their team next season.

Romo joining the Broncos remains possible because of Denver’s new head coach Vance Joseph’s recent statements. The latter said that they are willing to go into the season with Siemian or Lynch as a starter but did not discount the possibility of acquiring Romo.

Initial talks this 2017 NFL offseason had the Cowboys releasing Romo. Months away from the training camp, Dallas has not made any move to either release or trade the veteran. It’s likely that the Cowboys is just waiting for the best offer for the 36-year-old Romo.

Romo could still be a serviceable player for any NFL squad. Injuries have derailed his career and he lost his starting job in Dallas because he was hurt last season. By the time he was healthy, Prescott was leading the Cowboys to winning streaks and it was tough for the coaching staff to give back the former his starting job under centre.

“The Broncos were a job that wasn’t broken. Most jobs that open, it’s a rebuild. The [previous] guy was fired for a reason [when jobs come open] – it wasn’t right,” Joseph said to Yahoo Sports.

“But with this job, they just won a championship the year prior and they won nine games with two rookie quarterbacks. It’s not a broken job. You have a great fan base and great management,” Joseph added.

More importantly, Joseph alluded to their plans next NFL season. He says that they are going with Siemian or Lynch as the starter but the report notes that there is still a possibility that Denver acquires Romo this 2017 offseason.

It can be remembered that the Broncos wsa the team that gave Peyton Manning a shot to lead a team despite being past his prime and in the latter years of his NFL career. Realistically, Tony Romo can still be that veteran guy to lead a playoff contender like the Broncos.
