NBA Score: Memphis Grizzlies Beat Atlanta Hawks, 94-88

After the Atlanta Hawks beat the Golden State Warriors last Friday, the former has been crowned the “best team in the NBA” owing to that big victory in the battle between the National Basketball Association, or NBA, teams with the best win-loss records. On Sunday night, it was the Memphis Grizzlies turn to join that discussion as they beat the Hawks, 94-88 to gain ground on the league leaders in the overall NBA team standings.
With the win, the Grizzlies improved to 38-13 for the year just three games back off the Warriors (40-9) for second in the tough Western Conference and three and a half games back the Hawks (42-10) for third overall in the entire league.
The Grizzlies went on a late run to get the win over the Hawks. With the game tied at 86-86 with 3:26 to go in the game, Memphis went on an 8-2 run to finish off Atlanta. Five players ended up in double-figure scoring for the Grizzlies led by Mike Conley’s 21 points. Marc Gasol (16 points and 10 rebounds) and Zach Randolph (10 points and 15 rebounds) both had double-doubles for Memphis, which also had timely contributions from Tony Allen (9 points and 5 rebounds), Jeff Green (11 points and 6 rebounds).
Atlanta, which is known for their offensive efficiency, shot just 41.3% (33/80 field goals) from the floor in this game and only had 17 assists. They were held down to 88 points, far cry from their 103.8 points per game average for the year. They also averages 25.9 assists per game (2nd in the league) this year but clearly Memphis’ game plan was to try to disrupt that ball movement.
The Hawks beat the Warriors, 124-116 in their previous game led by Jeff Teague’s 23 points and Paul Millsap’s 21 points. Only Teague came to play against the Grizzlies finishing with 22 points (9/13 FGs) while Millsap was limited to four points missing eight of 10 shots from the field.
Upcoming Schedule (Next 3 Games):
Atlanta Hawks: at Minnesota Timberwolves, at Boston Celtics, vs. Toronto Raptors
Memphis Grizzlies: vs. Brooklyn Nets, at Oklahoma City Thunder, at Portland Trail Blazers
