It’s a known fact that Microsoft’s Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL come with “Window 10 Mobile,” straight out of the box. As for other Windows-powered devices, the tech giant will apparently start rolling out the major update towards mid-December.

Now, however, a new report reveals the official end date of mainstream support for the latest OS. As it turns out, Nokia Power User has ferreted out the Windows 10 Mobile lifecycle documentation.

According to the document, Microsoft officially planned to release the new OS for consumers and business on Nov. 16. When it comes to the lifecycle end date, support for Window 10 Mobile will reportedly be phased out on Jan. 9, 2018. In other words, any future major or minor update to the Windows 10 Mobile will be active until this date.

Furthermore, Microsoft will apparently stick to the traditional incremental firmware update routine in phases for a “minimum of 24 months”. The tech giant hasn’t committed any specific rollout schedule thus far. For instance, Google not long ago acknowledged that the Android OS will be updated “every month” with a security patch because of the widespread “Stagefright vulnerability” incident. In comparison, Microsoft had no such plans.

On the other hand, GSM Arena says the tech giant will rollout the first set of Windows 10 Mobile update to eligible Lumia handsets from Dec. 14 onwards. The devices under the ambit of first batch include the Lumia 630, 635, 640, 735 and 830.

The second batch commences on Feb. 1, 2016. The eligible devices reportedly include Lumia 520, 532, 625, 720, 820, 920, 925, 930, 1020 and 1320.

Update Dec. 04: Microsoft has updated its support page and hence, the end date has now been changed from "Jan. 8, 2019" to "Jan. 9, 2018."
