Madonna and Guy Ritchie settle custody battle over son Rocco
Madonna and ex-husband Guy Ritchie have reportedly settled their 8-month-long custody battle over their eldest son, Rocco.
“Yes, they have,” Lucian Chalfen, spokesperson of the Unified Court System, confirmed to Us Weekly on Wednesday. “The court case is resolved.”
Madonna, 58, and Ritchie, 47, were due to appear in court in New York City on Wednesday, according to ABC. Details of the settlement were confidential, but Ritchie’s attorney confirmed that Rocco will remain in London and see his mother frequently.
“Guy Ritchie is delighted to have this case behind him,” Ritchie’s attorney said. “Everybody in the family is happy that an agreement has been reached and Rocco can continue to live with his father in London.”
The “Rebel Heart” singer and the “Sherlock Holmes” director have been locked in a legal dispute late last year when Rocco, now 16, refused to fly to the US for Christmas. “This entire thing is 40 percent Rocco and 60 percent Guy. Guy is trying hard to mess with her again,” an insider claimed to Us Weekly at that time, adding that the Grammy winner was heartbroken over the situation.
In March, the exes called in for an NYC court hearing. According to The Telegraph, New York Supreme Court Judge Deborah Kaplan, the presiding judge in the case, urged them to put their child first and resolve the matter out of court.
Rocco remained in London while his parents tried to work out a deal. He was reunited with his mother in May, and the two were spotted at an off-Broadway show in New York the following month. The teen accompanied his mother to Cuba to celebrate her 58th birthday in August.
“In my Universe there are 2 Suns!” the singer wrote in an Instagram post. “Best Birthday ever!”
Madonna and Ritchie filed for divorce in 2008 after eight years of marriage.
