Nominated for six Grammys, Sam Smith is definitely on cloud nine for winning Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album in the 57th Grammy Awards. Among those six nods are the Grammy’s Big Four categories: Record, Song and Album of the year, and Best New Artist.

In his latest interview with Los Angeles Times, the British singer admitted that winning the Best New Artist award is going to be the highlight of his fast-rising music career because “you can only win that once.” Smith joined the ranks of veteran singers and Grammy winners Beyonce and Pharrell Williams with six nominations for this year’s award show.

"Six [nominations] is just ridiculous," he told the publication. “The most important thing for me was to sell records, be able to perform at arenas for people and for my message, my music, my story to reach as many people as possible.”

The singer also admitted that his dreams already come true and winning the Grammy is only a bonus. Grammy-winning songwriter and producer Rodney Jerkins predicted that Smith can win in more than one category and was confident that the singer could win all his nominations.

The 22-year-old former lavatory cleaner has become one of pop music’s biggest breakout stars. His debut single, “In the Lonely Hour,” is one of the 2014’s biggest releases (behind “Frozen” soundtrack and Taylor Swift) and one of the largest selling debuts.

The Cambridgeshire native bested Bastille, Brandy Clark, Iggy Azalea and HAIM in Best New Artist. His “In the Lonely Hour” album bested Coldplay’s “Ghost Stories,” Miley Cyrus “Bangerz,” Ariana Grande’s “My Everything,” Ed Sheeran’s “x” and Katy Perry’s “Prism” for Best Vocal Pop Album.

Smith’s “Stay With Me” is head to head with Iggly Azalea’s “Fancy”, Sia’s “Chandelier”, Taylor Swift “Shake It Off” and Meghan Trainor’s “All About The Bass” for Record of the Year. For Album of the year, the singer is up against Beck, Beyonce, Ed Sheeran and Pharrell Williams.

Happening now at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles, the 2015 Grammy Awards honours the men and women of the music industry with 87 awards and 25-plus heart-stopping performances. Rock band AC/DC rocked the crowd with their hit single “Highway To Hell,” while Jessie J and Tom Jones teamed on “You’ve Lost That Lovin’Feeling” as a tribute to songwriters Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil.
