Every year, Glamour magazine looks to women of all ages who have accomplished something remarkable and honours them for their intelligence and spirit.

Each year, the theme has always been the same -- solidarity among women, women supporting women -- and this year is no different. For the 21st annual event, the magazine chose the multi-hyphenate Jennifer Lopez to represent 2011's "Woman of the Year." The always luminous Lopez accepted the award with such grace and spoke about the important women in her life and how they influenced her in profound ways.

Also honoured but unable to attend the ceremonies was Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., who survived an attempt on her life in January. Her husband, Mark Kelly, accepted on her behalf but made it clear that his wife was still the one in charge and they had, in fact, previously reviewed everything Kelly would be saying in the acceptance speech.

A survivor of sex trafficking at a very young age, activist Withelma "T" Ortiz-Macey, was also honored for her work to eradicate sexual slavery. Her story of abuse and desolation continues to be an inspiration to herself as well as the many others who have fought and have been fighting the same fight.

A lifetime achievement award was given to Gloria Steinem who has given so much to voice out women's concerns in her political activism. Speaking of which, Esraa Abdel Fattah who played a significant role in the revolution in Egypt was given the Woman of the Year fund award for the said feat.

Also given credit were actor Lea Michele, comedian Chelsea Handler, internet media force Arianna Huffington, designer Tory Burch as well as Laura Bush and her daughters.
