'The Fault in Our Stars' is The Biggest Pre-Selling Love Story Movie- Fandango
The film adaptation of John Green's international bestselling novel "The Fault in Our Stars" is the biggest pre-selling love story according to the movie ticketing company Fandango.
The ticketing service revealed that the movie has broken the record of the company's 14-year of pre-selling history although it did not disclose the actual pre-sales figures.
With Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort as the two star-crossed lovers, "The Fault in Our Stars" has beaten Fandango's pre-sales record holder "The Vow," a 2012 romantic drama. The movie starred by Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams scored $41.2 million domestic sales during its opening weekend.
According to an article from The Wrap, a survey of more than 1,000 ticket buyers conducted by Fandango revealed that 95 percent of them have been looking forward to the movie release. Sixty percent of the survey participants bought the tickets in advance, in anticipation of the Thursday night show. This strongly indicated that "The Fault in Our Stars" is the most highly-anticipated movie release on the first weekend of June.
Fandango's survey results also showed that 81 percent of those who purchased the ticket have read the novel. There were also 77 percent survey respondents who have watched Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort as siblings in the movie "Divergent." The movie scored $54.6 million domestic sales on opening weekend.
Several scenes in "The Fault in Our Stars" were shot in Amsterdam, Netherlands which was the setting in the best-selling novel. According to an article from Washington Post, experts guessed that "The Fault in Our Stars" will score a solid figure between $35 million to $40 million on opening weekend. There are several clues to support the experts' estimates.
John Green's novel from where the film spin off sold 10.7 million copies and was translated to 46 languages including Spanish, French, Hebrew, Dutch and many more. The novel stayed for 78 consecutive weeks on the Young Adult category at the New York Times bestseller list. While the movie trailer uploaded on YouTube already amassed over 20 million views and over 305 thousand likes and still counting.
Loyal TFIOS fans could not wait for the opening night since the film version was announced in January 2012. According to an article from Indy Star, a 17-year old fan named Jessie Sporn waited for over 30 hours just to get a glimpse of the cast on their scheduled arrival at Ziegfeld Theater, New York.
"Security wasn't even here yet. I want to have the chance to see the people who brought this movie to life up close. Including not just the actors, but John Green. None of this would be here without him," Sporn stated.
"The Fault in Our Stars" will be released in U.S. cinemas on June 6.
