The death toll from the Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin, has reached six as an 8-year-old boy succumbed to his injuries Tuesday inside the intensive care unit.

Jackson Sparks, 8, and his 12-year-old brother were both hospitalized after sustaining serious injuries at the parade. Jackson reportedly underwent brain surgery following the incident.

The 12-year-old “miraculously” recovered from his injuries and is expected to be released from the hospital.

At least 18 children were injured with 13 of them being hospitalized, six of them are in critical condition, three of them are in fair condition, and four are in good condition according to the hospital.

The other five who died were Wilhelm Hospel, 81; Virginia Sorenson, 79; LeAnna Owen, 71; Tamara Durand, 52; and Jane Kulich, 52. Sixty-two people were injured.

The driver, 39-year-old Darrell Brooks, was arrested on Sunday and is expected to be charged with six counts of first-degree intentional homicide. According to police, Brooks was involved in a domestic incident prior to driving his red SUV through the parade.

According to witnesses, Brooks “rapidly” accelerated and drove in “a zigzag motion” and there was “no attempt” to stop or slow down.

Brooks is a registered sex offender in the state of Nevada with an active arrest warrant in the state. He had served time at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center from March 2007 to September 2008. Brooks had previously run over the mother of his child inside of a gas station parking lot and has also been accused of firing a handgun during an argument.
